Let's go on a diet, okay?

Okay, get on the wagon!

Our philosopher is keen to tell us that before you start your lifelong journey to good health that you must check your metabolism - the sum of all "chemical reactions" in an organism's "cells" that convert food into energy to "sustain life". Metabolism regulates appetite, keeps you warm and allows muscles to contract. Metabolism maintains CELL HEALTH.

Indigenous vegetables - before Columbus

The DIET of American native tribes:

Summer:CORN/Maize, SQUASH, BEANS, PUMPKIN

Winter: Walnuts, chestnuts, seafood, venison (deer) and wild fowl.

NO potatoes, NO wheat/bread, NO rice.

Florida: NO tomatoes - Georgia: NO peanuts

Spanish and Portuguese ships took the following foods/seeds from South America to Spain: - the Mediterranean countries - Africa and Asia.

A legume (fruit) scientifically not a veggie; used as a NUT in cooking (roasting)

THE SPUD

The most nutritious vegetable

POTATO CHIPS

We can sustain life eating only vegetation - plants and fruits - if we live in the lands of the Orang-Utan (ASIA: forest-man in Malay) and the Chimpanzee (Central AFRICA). What are the repercussions today of eating a vegetarian diet started in adulthood? Will we be healthier and live longer? TIME WILL TELL

The "vegetarian" diet (worldwide) has been made possible because of mobility: TRANSPORTATION by land (trucks - railroad), sea, and air (after World War Two) by commercial airlines.

DO YOU GET THE PICTURE?

No matter where in this world, the diet of peoples changed when "exotic" (new foods) were available all year long. Bananas have become a staple: easy to peel and easy to eat.

Our philosopher asks:

DO YOU WOLF DOWN YOUR FOOD?

What's good for a wolf-dog is good for a homo sapiens!

TRY THIS:

Put food in your mouth, fold your hands and start chewing; swallow; breathe.

Next bite: put food in your mouth, fold your hands and chew: swallow; breathe.

DO YOU GET THE PICTURE?

Richard, our philosopher, tells us that reading - cookbooks in libraries, desk jobs, air- and car travel - requires SIT, SIT, SIT on your BUTTOCKS (get off your butt-ass), in French it's politely called DERRIERE.

Guess what Richard has in store for us - yes, horror of all horrors - EXERCISE !

He recommends: Make WALKING - jogging or running - part of your FITNESS PROGRAM.

Where you live ... it is too hot for FOOTWORK?

SWIM, SWIM, SWIM

AND - stick to your "maintenance diet¨: the calories you need to maintain "your own ideal weight" - forever - A LIFETIME!

Richard says:

IN THE LONG RUN (!)

You do "it" for the form of the thing: Learn HOW to take CONTROL of your LIFE.

Dick Van Dyke recently celebrated his 100th birthday: all smiles, he said: KEEP MOVING!
