Let's go on a diet, okay?
JUVENAL
Decimus Junius JUVENALIS was born 55 CE in Aquino, Italy.
The Roman poet became famous for the following quote:
MENS SANA IN CORPORE SANO
A HEALTHY MIND IN A HEALTHY BODY
There are people who eat . . . so they can LIVE
and those who live . . . so they can EAT
You will NOT DIE if you refrain from drinking SODAS, BEER, WINE and SPIRITS
but
you WILL DIE if you don't drink WATER: your kidneys will revolt.
Easy habit: drink, first thing in the morning, A GLASS OF WATER
TANTALUS
When you are watching what you eat, do not enter a restaurant that has a
TANTALIZING MENU
with finger-licking appetizers (escargot en brioche) and
mouth-watering desserts (limoncello cake).
Do you get the picture?
Greek Myth:
TANTALUS, a demigod, was punished by his father Zeus in TARTARUS for serving his son Pelops to the gods “TO TEST” their “omniscienc”(all-knowledgeable)
The punishment involved “eternal torment” in a pool of water under a fruit tree where the water receded and fruit branches rose “just out of reach” – symbolizing endless, unfulfilled desire.
TARTARUS was THE PRISON OF THE DAMNED—THE DUNGEONS
ICE CUBES ONLY
THE FLESH IS WEAK . . . . . . .
ice cream, French fries, pizzas, pies, “frozen dinners”, and so on . . . tantalizing foods!
Our philosopher Richard has—to start with—an "easy-peasy remedy"
EAT LESS !
For Beginners:
Richard's DIET—slow changes are best: cheerfully expect setbacks
OPENS UP a new world of . . . TASTE !
In the past, the Bible was "the" best-seller.
Today, cookbooks—diet-books—are de rigueur.
Sugar and alcohol are—NAKED CALORIES
SALT and SUGAR equals APPETITE—why PIZZA is so... TASTY
We need FAT for our BRAIN (lubricate neurons): olive oil, not bacon; avocados, not sausages.
Do you get the picture?
Our philosopher wants us to eat CLEAN FOODS: meaning UNPROCESSED foods. It definitely will also help if you count calories.
A FAT PERSON DOES NOT EAT GOOD FOOD
IF YOU HATE FAT, HE SAYS, THEN YOU HATE YOURSELF
DO YOU CHOOSE TO BE FAT?
ARE YOU OBSESSED WITH FOOD?
DO YOU WOLF DOWN YOUR FOOD?
Richard's suggestion:
Go to your local Free Library (no snacking on the premises) and spend hours perusing cookbooks—savor the pictures, not just with your eyes but also with your tongue: SALIVATE. Your memory will recall some favorite dishes grandma "made from scratch".
