Orpheus the poet, the magical singer, half-man-half-god, moved all of nature by his song—of love and death and grief—
of death invading the happiness of love.
MEDEAby Euripides is the greatest DRAMA centered on MOTHERHOOD.
My book: THE BLUE MIRROR, page 396--- is about the universal, heart-breaking-story
of a mother and her decisions about the future of her children.
The Great Dionysia was a song and dance festival proclaiming the might of Athens.

Poetry and Its Public in Ancient Greece

Stripped of its ornamentation and color (rhythm, meter) poetry becomes nothing but LANGUAGE—WORDS pure and simple.

If you have an "idea of something" you must express it: either you say it in proper WORDS or you present the idea symbolically. The VISION of the symbol is powerful: a PICTURE is worth more than a thousand WORDS.

We live in a linguistic universe where REALITY is what we construct in WORDS.

Some of my poems
The Seat of Melpomene
SORROW is begging—have mercy, have grace
as tragedy is looking straight into my face.
TRAGEDY is dripping in wild cold tears,
moaning and groaning are permeating my ears.
REVENGE is cutting through flesh and through bone
bloodthirsty—done by maniacs and demons alone.
Brother Orestes and sister Electra
killing their mother queen Clytemnestra
avenging Agamemnon their father and king.
MELPOMENE oh MELPOMENE—your ode I’ll never sing!
The Ritual
I like going to church because of the RITUAL
as it unites mankind in the rational and the spiritual.
The Celestial influx—mystical interpretations
of inspirations—sublimations—renunciations.
The Perception of the external and the internal—
the celestial from the spiritual from the rational.
The Contemplations of the temptations
of the flesh and of the spirit—Condemnations.
The ways of the faith are obscure and latent
but the devil’s ways are many and patent.

Magic
My mind is like a magic lamp,
the magic lamp of Aladdin.
Touched once—you see the glow,
the glow of wonder so enthralling.
Touched twice—you see the spell,
the spell of Sirens so bewitching!
Touched thrice—the doors of golden glory,
the glory of Calypso so enchanting.
Touched four times—the magic carpet,
the carpet of flights-of-fancy.
Touched five times—
I wave the Wand-of-Magic,
The Wand-of-Magic of My Mind...

A Rambling Rose
A pretty princess—a real sleeping beauty
was kept in a castle of rambling roses.
A real wonderworker—being on duty
and looking into his crystal ball—imposes:
"It is high time that I wake her up!"
And with his magic wand, his magic hand,
by his command, his words so bold,
he waved his abracadabra in roses-land.
Lo and behold—it therefore is told
that she awoke and thus she rose.
She smiled and he smiled—and he said:
"What are you planning to do, my pretty one?"
"I'm going to sing your ode"—she gratefully said.
